Hi,
I just started studying (in September) after work for an MBA and found
the LyX quite useful. I use it at home with my LinuX box (Suse8.0) and
at work I use the Knoppix distro for the LyX stuff since 3 days at work
with a reboot into Knoppix in the lunch break.
Probably my boss does not like it, but in the break I just "missuse" my
computer.
At work I have to do a öot of calculations in MathCAD, what you guys
probably know already. I like both, MathCAD (it has a few diadvantages
in the text formatting capabilities, you can basically say it has no
capabilities) and LyX for its tremendous effectiveness writing papers
for university (it took my a while to figure out how to import a picture
into a float ... the trick is to set the cursor direct in the beginning
of the caption line AND hit enter.... I missed the enter part in the
beginning).
Since you guys have a representation of all my formulas in the data
structure already, would it be possible to make the formulas alive? I
think (back in Germany with my old Amiga, I was using Maple and copied
the LateX output to to my Diploma -file. I could imagine to use Maple as
a processor of the formulas and build the output of maple back into the
document. I dont know if it has to be Maple, may be other stuff works
too. I searched a little with Google and found:
http://www.uni-koeln.de/REDUCE/3.6/doc/rlfi/
www.mupad.de (I did not find anything about LaTeX output there)
http://www.fis.unipr.it/~stefanw/gtybalt/gtybalt.html
http://www.hartmath.org/
There I stopped to ask you first, if you thing, something like this is
possible.
Another thing I thought of was something you probably already discussed.
Since I have to switch "worlds" every day from LinuX to Windows and
back, it would be nice to have LyX portet to Java, since I am not
allowed to install SW which is not Company owned SW on my work computer.
So I could run LyX as a Java program directly from my flash drive.
So, enough from my "impossible" ideas.
It would be nice to hear something from you. I have a very limited
amount of time left (>40h a week work and study MBA) but I am willing to
support you guys as far as I can. I did program C++ 10 years ago and I
did a small Java program a few month ago. Both languages I do not speak
fluently.
You guys can answer in German if you wish, I am a German.
I wish you a appy time
Uwe
