The "font changes are insets" are not very relevant. You introduced
them because it simplifies your code, and now you talk about removing
some functionality (resetting font) because of that. This does not
make me want font insets in general code.

You see, this very structured notion of everything is a box may be
very pleasing from a theoretical point of view, but the flat
(wordprocessor-like) approach that LyX currently has is in my view
more usable. Changing layout in combox toolbar is easier than
inserting whatever nifty inset. Toggling fonts is easier than
"inserting a font change". Of course the structured way is more
expressive, but it is also a pain in the ass. So before going this
way, we have to think hard about usability problems.
