Concerning the usefulness of this feature. I think it is latex'
\includeonly feature, where some parts of the document will not be
typeset, but latex will remember the labels, number of pages, etc.
that it contains, so that the rest of the document is not affected.
This was useful for big books on slow computers, I think. It works
only with \include.

I am not sure whether some people use this feature.
