YES, YES. For example when writing papers for journals. The first submission for editor and referees, has to be one-column (and double spaced). But eventually the layout for the journal will be two-column. Although I'm initially typing the document as one-column, I still want to be able to select whether the a particular float should always be wide, or should fit into the column width. Disallowing the wide toggle when in one-column mode, would very annoying in this context. Please don't! Does that make sense? Rob.
