I use the proprietary operating system because I use other proprietary software that doesn't run on Linux. I use 4.0e because the bloat with subsequent versions is enormous. I am very tempted sometimes to switch to Linux and compile into the kernel support for Tru64 executables, so that I can run said proprietary software on Linux. I remember doing this long ago to get netscape to run on an Alpha machine running Linux, so guess that this is still possible. However, I'm currently busy and the learning curve would, I fear, be long and slow. Anyway, testing LyX with things other than Linux is a good thing.
