I don't believe this...  I just restarted LyX in gdb and now I get a
different set of cases to what I had minutes ago.  It must be Friday.

Now it works in the inset but fails in the outer paragraph!
(Works = "more [foot] text")

Weirdest thing I've ever seen.

s&p now works if you are pasting into the same thing you set your
selection in but doesn't if you attempt to paste (MMB) elsewhere.

And a new case I didn't notice before:
7. select and delete some of the extra stuff you pasted into the outer
paragraph.  Now try to s&p the contents of the inset into the outer
paragraph, the stuff you just deleted is pasted instead of the
selection from the inset!  Aaaaarrrrgggghhhh!

This is driving me up the wall.
