I agree that this are important and good commands. I have an idea, but I don't know if this is possible and how to make it. And it's of course a post-1.2.0 issue. Wouldn't it be possible to have something like a "Macro"-feature in LyX? The user can define his own LaTeX-Insets (e.g. |") and bind this by himself.
