I'll try it, but in most cases the 2D drawing looks much better than a
3D-Rendering.

Mmh, yeah that's right. I didn't thought about that as I used the
Gif-picture of the LyX website.
It is possible to reduce to 8 bit, but it won't look that smooth.
Also at our university in vienna there are still Suns with 8 bit graphic
cards in use. I think 256 colors are acceptable to day. What's your opinion ?

Gladly! But first I need some "technical" informations about size(s) and
maximum of used colors.
