Do I really need the 'fragile' flag anymore to write(ostream &, bool
fragile) if I output inline math in '$...$'?

The only place it seems to be used currently is to write a \protect in
front of \\begin{array} and \\end{array}  when set.

Would removing that mean that  arrays would not work in section headings?
