Not much time is wasted on maintaining the XForms port. Why? Because
XForms changes so slowly ;-)

No. The GUII work is actually very independent of the rest of the work
going on with LyX.
But the main point is the same: We waste time on a lot of things,
simply because we want to. Get over it.
Of course, you are allowed to state your opinion about how the development
should proceed, and in general, the developers listen carefully to such
feedback. Other times, they don't, because they don't agree.
Your quest is clear: You want to speed up the development of LyX, in this
case by focusing the effort. This would seem like a sound idea, but it
seems that you forgot a few factors in the equation. First of all, it's
not necessarily a good decision to ditch the GUII work to speed up
development in the long run. Secondly, you can't force people to work on a
given job, just because *you* think it would be a good idea. Third, if
your main goal really is to have fast development, it would be better to
stay with XForms, since then we don't have to waste time porting to a new
toolkit at all.
Now, I think you want it all: Fast development, and a more modern toolkit.
Well, I'm sorry to break the news: You can't have all that.
The only practical way of speeding up the development of LyX
substantially is to either do the work yourself, or to pay somebody to
work for you. That's just how it works.
