I checked and noticed that the Ubuntu package texlive-lang-european
provides babel-finnish. And unfortunately texlive-lang-european was not
installed.
For some reason, also e.g. texlive-lang-english wasn't installed.

So I installed package texlive-lang-european and generated the PDF from my
document, and to my surprise, the figure caption headers are now correct <3
Thanx!

May I assume that my lyx document is not needed any more?

Maybe the LyX installation package (in most Linux platforms) needs more
recommended packages for installation, like texlive-lang-* packages..

At least in the Finnish UI, Subsection and Subsubsection are translated as
Alikappale and Alialikappale, so maybe this part of the UI could give a
hint, how "Subfigure" should be translated in different languages.

Sure.

These are:

"see equation[[nomencl]]" "katso yhtälö"
"page[[nomencl]]" "sivu"
"Notes[[Endnotes]]" "Muistiinpanot"

"List of Listings" and "Nomenclature[[output]]" seems to be correct.
Even my wife, a senior technical writer, agrees ;-)

My wife reviewed other Finnish translations and she have some
suggestions/feedback

as more "pure" Finnish terms, not necessary terms that mathematicians use
in their terminology.

The term "Scheme" is more difficult as it depends from the context (or
field of science), but several mathematical dictionaries suggest
"Scheme" "Kaavio"

Providing translation would allow us to translate these correctly for lyx

If there is a need for more Finnish translations or feedback, I/we can
provide these.
