To the volunteers I want to say -- I love LyX! I was too impatient
to use LaTeX, but LyX is just what I've needed.

LaTeX/LyX makes it possible to do Book On Demand (BOD)
publishing, which is wonderful. By using LyX and specifying an
5.5 x 8.5 inch page size, you can then export postscript. Then
run it through mpage to place 4 pages on the folded pages of
an 8.5 x 11 inch page.
See http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue47/nielsen.html for more
details on this (I happen to be using FreeBSD).

What LyX badly needs is an option to increase the font size from 12
point to a size much larger (like 16 or even 18 point). This is
needed because mpage reduces the image to fit each page, making
it hard to read. Even ignoring the mpage issue, I would like to
print large font. I realize it can probably be tricked to do this,
but it would be much easier to specify it in the Layout->Document
menu.

Even better(!) however, would be to have LyX provide the option
to generate output directly for folded pages: front and back sides
(4,1,2,3). In this manner, 12-point would still be 12 point (although
larger fonts would be appreciated still).

With the techniques of printing on folded pages, it empowers people
to publish their own paperbacks, with a simple home constructed
press and some contact cement. LyX could do all the rest!

Anyway, thanks for your efforts! LyX is great. Keep up the good
work.
