What you show is open dialog, which I guess is generic across many different applications on your system as it's brokeness is probably not unique to LyX. If I was to guess I'd probably check whether your graphical drivers are correct/can be updated/etc. Second option is to try different desktop than mate, but I'm sceptical this would change much...
