Would a developer please look at the patch attached to
https://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/11620 and provide feedback such that we can
work toward incorporating this feature into the code base as soon as is
reasonable?

I have also attached screenshots showing how git- and SVN-based documents
appear with the entry (which is valid for git and not for SVN or, AFAIK,
other VCSs).
