You are aware that this changes the PDF output
Yes

the French translation of the nomencl package?
Oups, I was not aware of this translation, I did only know about the babel
translation which is 'Glossaire', and which inspired my translation of
'Nomenclature' (in French, the four terms 'Terminologie', 'Nomenclature',
'Glossaire' and 'Liste des symboles' do exist, from the general to the
restrictive meaning. 'Glossaire' and 'Liste des symboles' are pretty close, but
nomencl provides clearly the latter).
If I compile the UserGuide, I get 'Liste des Symboles' as title. If I understand
correctly the preamble code
<cite>
\addto\captionsfrench{%
\def\eqdeclaration#1{, voir équation\nobreakspace(#1)}%
\def\pagedeclaration#1{, page\nobreakspace#1}%
\def\nomname{Liste des symboles}%
}
[...]
\def\eqdeclaration#1{, voir équation\nobreakspace(#1)}
\def\pagedeclaration#1{, page\nobreakspace#1}
\def\nomname{Liste des symboles}
</cite>
this is enforced by the layouttranslations content which supersedes babel.
Not that this is permitted per se, but take into account that this
change will change user's documents without noticing them of it.
Sure, I thought that lyx2lyx could take care of this.
But clearly, unification should be rather done around 'Liste des symboles' in
the UserGuide and the GUI, as this will not modify the output.
I will proceed in this line.
Thank you for pointing out the problem.
