This is very helpful. For now, (i.e. for your normal LyX work) can you
test rc1 without the commit that causes the problem for you? This way we
can see if there are any other problems that occur specifically with
openbox or fluxbox. The way to do this is the following:

git checkout 2.2.0rc1
# take out the problematic commit that you found
git revert --no-edit  b5a2f1c7e5caf6f79b6894b562769a5513b7b13f
# now compile as normal
