I can't track down the KDE 1 style guide :(

But you're right they don't do that. But then KDE 1 at least has many
broken things in its user interface.

The only bad thing I am tempted to conform to is the placement of buttons
like :

                                | OK | Apply | Cancenl

rather than :

        | OK |      | Apply |          | Cancel |


It's fairly obvious the second should be better as the targets are
larger.


Having thought about it, you might be right about the <return> / <escape>
thing. Tab order would probably do for the rarer Apply, Restore[1], etc.

[1] Here KDE tends to favour "Default". This is clearly a bad wording for
e.g. the paragraph dialog. Actually I couldn't find a "Default" button 
that actually *did* anything on a quick search
