To tell the user that he must update his file further on, I add
via lyx2lyx a red note explaining this.

Good idea. On a quick look at this patch I don't see where this happens.

See in my patch behind this line:

# now add a note that the user knows that he still has work to do

How will the user see this note?

At the beginning of the converted LyX file as a LyX note.
To test this, open LyX 2.1.x's ACM-siggraph.lyx with 2.2.

Thanks again for doing that. It is nice to know that our layouts are
up-to-date (except this pending patch) for a new major release.

Today I reviewed some more files and for AGUTeX we need to add a new layout, see my post for AGUTeX.

Thanks also for your work on this patch. I did a few quick tests. I find
the ACM tests all pass now. However, there are tex2lyx tests that fail.
Do they pass for you with this patch?

They pass for me. One needs to update the fileformat for the tex2lyx testfiles of course. I could add these changes to my patch but with the fileformat change for all doc files the patch becomes huge and the essential parts are somewhat hidden.

However, since your tests passed so far, I interpret it as +1 and committed this with all the fileformat changes to the *.lyx files.
I verified that tex2lyx works too.
