That's not the problem, IMHO. It can be done as soon as 2.1 is a branch in trunk. The general solution cannot be done with 2.1. It would be a pity to have the same situation again we had when going from 1.6 to 2.0. There was a document to tell the users how to copy the preferences manually before starting the new LyX the first time. Stephan
