Is that what this is?

No, they make money with LyX without helping to improve it. But this is a company in Venezuela and
they don't care about licensing issues in general. Nevertheless this is legal according to the GPL.
They only offer LyX courses and support:
- 5 days for free
- 30 days for 13 €
- 1 year for 60 €
I think they fully support you when you want to write your thesis. This is quite clever because
people there are used to pay a lot for all parts of education and only a few students know English
or have the heart to ask in an English forum or mailing list.
(Personally, I had the same experience with my students - and they all know English because even
some lectures were in English, but people are lazy.)

Since a long time I planned to offer commercial support for LyX. For example if a company wants to
have their own letter template etc. Most companies prefer to have somebody which the can call if
there are problems. The idea was to offer this by having a pool of developers and the one who take a
job gets the money. I think it is utopic to offer a support where anybody can be called any time,
but we could offer that we get paid to get a special bug fixed or to implement a special feature or
setup up special templates. If we get such a request we will ask on the devel list and if somebody
wants to take over we can sign a contract.
Just a rough thought.
