Yes, I saw that, too. The word "branch" could just be omitted. It's
there to distinguish, e.g., the creation of a tag, in which case I think
it would say "tag", though I'm not sure.

When multiple commits are pushed at once, these are collected in one
e-mail. This is rather confusing because the commits might not be

I'm wondering how you achieved this ?
I adapted the post-receive.sample hook that I found in the hooks/
subdirectory. This just calls
/usr/share/git-core/contrib/hooks/post-receive-email
so I copied that to the hooks/ subdirectory, modified it for our
purposes, and linked it as hooks/post-receive. It's just a bash script,
and configuration info is in the comments in it. So I added:

emailprefix = "[LyX]"
to the config file.
For future reference, what was sending the old mails was a hook now
renamed as hooks/post-receive-old.
Anyone who wants to mess around with this can easily do so. I figured
we'd want to do so, once we at least had the diffs again. I'm attaching
the script in its current form.
I also found the attached python script online, which seems more
sophisticated and might allow us to do a lot more. But I didn't have
time to wade through it.
