So why not put these packages that are needed by Lyx into the bundle and say that these are installed from there instead of from the net.
Because this would be too many work to keep all these packages up to date. By installing from the Internet, we assure that all packages are always up to date so that the user is not confronted with cryptic compilation errors when viewing his documents as PDF.
Especially for beginners (and people that use the bundle are often beginners) it's very hard to know what is missing and how to install this later.
Exactly for that reason we install all packages LyX supports at installation time. This way you have everything you need installed and LyX is fully featured. The package installation might take some minutes but this is definitely worth it for the first installation of LyX/LaTeX.
