Best would of course be to simply use your favourite text editor,
since LyX could never become as good as existing text editing
solutions.

However I understand the interest in your request. You may want to
append it to this bug [1] or  better start a new one and link it to
[1] (additionally to your comments, simply paste the [1] link into
your new report).
