Personally I would vote for an implementation (like the 'Download' button) that automates the process. We shouldn't expect inexperienced users to easily parse a message talking about 'conversion scripts' and 'lyxdirs' and easily understand what is being required of them to be able to edit a LyX file. It is more likely that in their eyes LyX would appear broken. I would also expect many of them to be reticent to perform such surgery, not least because they would be afraid to break their installation. As I pointed out in the other message, an automatised solution would complicate things for us, but, if implemented cleanly, would save many people a lot of trouble. Cheers Liviu
