but in the generated pdf I have "Table des figures" (probably that's

And this is correct. The babel translations can be considered "canonical"
(since they are widely used).

The file layouttranslations has a simple syntax, is easily customizable,
and will live in the user directory. I was quite excited by this
feature. I am surprised that it's not used fully.
There is an opportunity here to centralize all output-related
translations into one file and have our translations consistent
everywhere (not only thinking about different latex versions here, but
also about LyXHTML output and so on).
