i suspect most people are convinced of their superior sense of
aesthetics, and i am not an exception.

this is why i don't like it very much as a basis for decision making
(unless my preferred option comes out of course).

then there is also such a thing a status quo bias.

i am of course interested in what the market wants, but i don't think
that getting some not so random emails from people who happen to read
to user list at time t and with an opinion gives a good idea of what
the average lyx user would prefer.

now, it is important to get feedback from users but i am not in favor
of outsourcing development decisions to the user list

so once we recognize this, the only logical thing to do imo is to
treat it as any other design choice, and these are usually made by
those who contribute to lyx's development.

(i also thought that we decided to change the icons, so i don't
understand why the old set is an option)
