I'm sure it derives from tens and tens of different development versions
of LyX with different options which I tried out, playing with
preferences etc. :-) And I continuously switch from lyx-1.6 (Ubuntu
10.04 version) and svn version (I merely reconfigure, but I don't touch
the ~/.lyx folder).
I think you have no spell checker backend compiled in.
funny, because I tried to change by hand the "spellcheck_continuously"
to false, and actually the crash stops happening. Back to true and it
crashes again.
Regarding the crash I made more checks to validate the DocIterator before
calling locateWord().
Please try the attached patch.
Apparently the issue has been solved, thanks. However, consider the
puzzling remarks above (and commit your patch of course).
