It is funny since I did not remember the details but according to
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=fedora

Fedora 12 had the 2.6.31.5 kernel, and that is precisely the version where I 
remember that those problems were gone for me.

At that time I had some problems with the graphics card/driver (with the 
kernel mode setting turned on) that sometimes would freeze the display and 
thus trashing some file.
Until this day I almost never open facebook in this laptop even although the 
crashes are gone for more than a year, at the same time not having facebook 
turned on helps my productivity so I do not see any reason to change the 
status quo. ;-)

Since the battery has capacity problems I had the system turned off uncleanly 
with not other incovenience (other than to plug it and expecting it to turn on 
with the display ready to work).

I suspect that these problems are specific of the kernels between 2.6.29 (28?) 
and 2.6.31 when using ext4. This is what I remember but I admit to be wrong.
