Ah, that's why I haven't found it. When I want to insert a new thing, I look in the Insert menu. It therefore never came into my mind to look in the Edit menu if there is not yet an inset I can modify. Can we therefore move it to the Insert menu and add a separate entry in the Edit menu to modify existing charstyles?

I'm not sure there is a simple way to change the charstyle, so if we want to move it to Insert, we can just do that. I don't have a strong view about where it should be.
