On the page http://wiki.lyx.org/Layouts/Tufte-book is a remark:

As of version 1.6.5, LyX includes a Tufte-book layout and example file.

John Kane wrote nn Sun, 12/20/09 to the [email protected] an answer to my question concerning Tufle layout:

"However there definately are tufte book and handout examples in the
example file. Currently I am having a problem with a missing font
that drops the title when I'm using the book.layout and when I try
the handout example in dvi (MiXTeX - YAP) but another user (Joachim)
reports no problem under Mac OS."

I only can argue that he is using windows and get another result? I installed lyx 1.6.5 from source in Linux and found no Tufte layout files at all.

Next I downloaded the Tufte layout files and put the two to the proper place HOME/.lyx/layouts/ directory and the directory /usr/share/lyx/layouts/ as well ( I use Linux and "Two are better than one".). I did that on a debian linux and an ubuntu variant. Certaily I reconfigured lyx and restarted but I could not use Tufle layout.

Second I got a strange effect:
In debian both layout-files (book and handout) are listet in the document class-list with the remark not available. In ubuntu the book item ist isted double with the remark not available, the handout item is not listed at all.
(But I could imagine that I did some mistake.)

As there are no Tufte files at all after an installation I think there is high evidence that this is an arror in building the tar file? So I think the developers list is fitting?

Best regards BB
