Not in practice any longer, but in principle: If I am not using a
package at all, then it shouldn't be loaded I think. Loading it just
increases the probability of conflicts with other packages and probably
also makes compilation a tiny bit longer. And if one searches for
errors, one has to worry about one package more.

Ah, great. Finally. The first time that I was able to produce a TeX file
from LyX without any packages loaded! :-)
