Sure, it is a concern for me too. That is why I want to provide a standard installation procedure for Python libraries. There are several excellent suggestions in this thread and they should help solve the current situation. I'm lucky enough to have access to > Consequently, I think > we ought to be careful here to ensure consistency over time and over > changes in binary distributors. This is kind of a chicken-and-egg situation. It is hard to have confidence in a one-man show even if I promise to maintain eLyXer for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, more users means more developers and more chances of survival; but if packagers don't pick it up it might fail to achieve critical mass and ultimately lack users requests to move it forward. My advice to distributors would be to add it as an optional add-on for the time being, and see if it catches on. That said, I think eLyXer is on the right track. There are Debian packages, and it has been submitted to Debian; it will be included in the Windows alternate installer once we figure out a couple of issues; and if you add it to your installer then we will have covered the three most important platforms. Furthermore, independent downloads are going strong, and Freshmeat project clicks have numbered more than a thousand just in the last couple of weeks: http://freshmeat.net/projects/elyxer/date_metrics Unfortunately Savannah does not provide access statistics publicly, but from the logs I have evidence of more than 1800 downloads. I would say there is enough user interest, for a command-line tool that can only be used for LyX documents, and that is what is helping eLyXer grow and be more capable. Alex.
