Create a LyX document with a list, say with six items. Create a branch
and put three of the items into it. This does not work as one would
expect and hope: The list environment is ended before the branch
begins, then a new list environment is opened for the branch itself,
and then the list environment gets re-opened again.

I fear that this is quite a deep bug. Any thoughts?
This is a consequence of the inset nature of branches. I am not sure
what we can do about it... I think there is an open bug about it.

I see similar problems with HTML output: Every branch wants to start a new paragraph, so the stupid obvious way to proceed gives you things like:
regular text.
branch here ...
out of branch
. It gets worse, obviously. What would help is if there was some way to have a branch but have it be aware that it is part of a surrounding paragraph. Not sure at all how to do that.
