You seem of beeing pissed of by my last email. I don't understand why. I haven't rejected or replaced anything. I saw that your template and layout file was not in shape of getting into LyX. I therefore asked why you used certain TeX code etc. I asked precisely what I don't understand and about my concerns about the official JASA LaTeX class. I expected that you will answer my questions and ask the JASA publishers. Therefore I waited for your response. I also created a layout file for jasatex.cls and send it to you for testing.
Regarding your claim that ASA has an official class file, you have made an assumption not supported by the Acoustical Society of America. I asked the JASA Editor-in-Chief the following question. "The LyX developer appears to believe that, since jasatex.cls appears on the ASA website, it is JASA's official class file. Is he correct?" His response: "He is wrong."
OK, but I don't understand why they provide it then on the webpage and tell that authors should use it. I'm confused by this.
I assume from what you have said that you are a graduate student in a PhD program. I am not. I received the PhD degree over 50 years ago,
Why do you mention this? I just wanted to point out that it makes a difference who submits articles. You as well known professor working for many years on accoustics won't have any problems submitting. My experience is that journals reject submits for formal reasons when you don't follow exactly the typesetting rules and don't use the LaTeX class of the publisher. Therefore I try to make layouts and template as close as possible to follow the publisher's guidelines given on their webpage.
I believe that trying to work with you would continue to be counter-productive. I will look for another LyX developer with whom to work.
Why? I worked together with several other layout file editors and LaTeX-package maintainers with success. Some of them are also professors so I'm surprized about your reaction. Of course you are free to ask for another LyX developer to look at your package. I therefore CC this email to the lyx-devel mailing list.
We both want to provide a layout and template file for JASA, right? To be able to do this, we need to clearify what is stated on the JASA webpage. When jasatex.cls is not the official JASA LaTeX class, then please ask them to remove it then from their author guidelines and ask what the official one is. When it is REVTeX4 then we can use LyX's existing revtex4 layout file or improve it.
thanks and regards Uwe
