Even with the current splitting, opening a help document in LyX is a
lengthy process.

OTOH, navigating (especially following cross references) between
different LyX documents is not as easy as navigating inside one document.

Why not create a master document (LyXGuide.lyx, say) which includes all
the guides as Chapters or Parts. Placing the individual TOC, ...
commands in a "standalone" branch (which is disabled in the master but
enabled in the separate Guides) will retain the "Every manual is ... its
own ... book" feature.

In many settings, it is easier to search one document instead of a set
of documents.

I still see advantages of a "master Guide". It could, e.g., be translated
to a set of HTML files with working cross-references (hopefully).

Which?

I like the idea of a "shallow" UserGuide referring to
in-depth "Topic Guides". (If only navigating were easier.)
