It'll retrieve the "source", i.e. the wiki markup, of a wiki page.
Try this for instance:
curl 'http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/Welcome?action=source'
If you gave the URI of a wiki page that contained an embedded
LyX file, you'd then get the LyX file (plus the embedding markup of
course).
