Hello there,

The outline pane is obviously more than an outliner in 1.6. I am annoyed
by the fact that I have to first open a document before I can open the
pane. I propose to move the menu item from 'Document->Outline' to
'Tools->Navigator'. This of course means that the pane could be opened
even if there's no Buffer visible.

Objection(s)?

Hi Abdel,

Hello Steve,

I don't exactly understand what you're saying, but as an outline user for 40
years, a computer outline user for 25, and the originator of VimOutliner I
have some strong views on outliners.

What we call an 'outliner' in 1.5 and 1.6 has nothing to do with an externally saved outline. The outliner deals directly with the LyX file. So what you explain here is not really related to my question. This is similar to the document structure side panel of MS Word or the Navigator of OO Writer. You should try 1.5 to see what I mean.

Abdel.
