I cannot reproduce this with the English versions of these files. What language version have you used?
I used the Chinese Simplified version, but the documents are all in English.
I cannot help you here as it also works correctly here with simplified Chinese. Have you uninstalled
LyX beta3 before installing beta4? If not uninstall beta4, then beta3, then reinstall beta4 again.
Oh? I compared the size of LyXLauncher.exe in the version at BerliOS (Beta3, Beta4) with that in
the official setup (Beta3) and this is the result: in the BerliOS version LyXLauncher.exe is about
400KB+ while in the "official version" LyXLauncher.exe is only about 60KB. I have even
tried to replace the BerliOS version of LyXLauncher.exe in Beta4 with the "official
version" from Beta3, and the splash of CMD nolonger appeaes.
I've had a look what the version from Joost's installer (official) does, and it does the same as my
version: Hiding the CMD window. So when starting LyX the CMD window is immediately closed. I have no
idea why this fails for you as nobody reported this yet and my LyXLauncher is part of the installer
since one and a half year or so.
My Windows version is Win XP SP2 Simplified Chinese with all newest patches
except SP3. The splash of black CMD Window has appeared in every BerliOS
version I tested, not only in Beta series for 1.6.0, but also earlier versions.
In some of the earlier versions (which I no longer keep) the CMD window does
not even splash away: it keeps staying there unless LyX is closed. For 1.6.0
Beta series it just pops and splash away.
So what? The console (CMD) window is visible for some milliseconds and then disappears? Then
everything is fine. The time after the window disappears depend on your computer speed and settings.
On my PC I only see it for some milliseconds of my PC is busy with other things.
Nothing important here. I am just used to the way the "official" setup
organises its files.
That's a matter of taste.
However I am also confused with your answer: if the setup searches the system
for existing python installation, why does it install another version when I
indeed have already installed python myself?
Then there is perhaps a bug in my installer. What version of Python is
installed on your PC?
