Yes -- on Mac, closing the last document in a window automatically
closes the window. (Just to make sure this isn't affecting things, I
tried it again by clicking on the close-window widget rather than
using File > Close, and got the same behavior.)
OK, I polished a few things there. It is very hard to get all the use
cases right so please do some testing and report back. The good news is
that I've uniformised the behaviour for all platforms.
