I do not know how to solve the problem with 1.5.4 in Debian, but with Qt 4.4.0rc1-2 from Debian, 1.6svn does not crash on startup. However, the text of the LyX menus (very light yellow) are now illegible on my system. I encountered the same problem with menu text on other apps that are based on Qt but I managed to work around them by choosing a new color scheme. 1.6svn does not seem to follow the color scheme of the rest of the system and I don't know if it is possible to change it within LyX. Tools -> Preferences -> User Interface did not seem to have any relevant options. Ben
