I would recommend to save the EMF/WMF images in the original format.
There can always be bugs in the conversion, so it's better to keep the
original.

could perhaps have the default paste in original format and offer an additional
"paste as eps"...
Yes, that's a good idea. Can you have a look at the clipboard
copy-pasting of metafile data? If I remember correctly, the feature
already exists in trunk for PDF data, so I hope it's easy to add support
for metafile data as well.
