Thanks, Bennett -- both for being receptive in principle and for
offering the reins to make the Qt patch a regular part of the LyX/Mac
distribution.

I agree with Jean-Marc that we wouldn't want to lose your help as
maintainer, and I promise I would be a poor replacement.

(For one thing, I have an old PPC Mac that is unfortunately no longer
my primary machine -- I've been told it produces working Universal
binaries but I can't guarantee that will continue to be the case.)

Totally understandable.

In the tarball of the patch I posted on the wiki, I included a script
that I used to apply the patch and build both Qt and LyX. It's pretty
rough (no error checking, etc.) but I could fix it up a bit, and/or
add a section to the INSTALL.MacOSX file.

If we went this route, we might want to check the patch into SVN so it
becomes part of the LyX source distribution -- though I don't see an
obvious place to put it that would avoid cluttering things.

You may be right, and that would be fine with me. I haven't monitored
the download stats, but I've only ever heard from a handful of people
about this issue, so it might not be worth going out of our way to
support it.

(To anyone reading this on the archives: feel free to chime in on the
wiki at http://wiki.lyx.org/Mac/LyXmodifierKeys if this issue is
important to you.)

Per Jean-Marc's suggestion:

> What would be nice is to get trolltech to do something about it...

I agree with that, too. For what it's worth, I logged the suggestion
in the Trolltech Task Tracker with a link to this thread and the wiki
page. Will report back if I hear anything from them.

cheers,
