I see. Then I was misleaded by the description in (several) LaTeX docs.

If we remove it from the context menu, we still have it in the dialog. 
Removing it completely would entail a file format change. Remember that we 
support enspace and friends as of LyX 1.4.0.

Of course we can remove it from the GUI and keep it as a "hidden feature".
