I did not dare to do that myself ;-)
Do you plan to do the same for the toolbar backend? That would be great.
If you do that, keep in mind that there is an obvious misdesign in
current architecture, namely that the backend mixes toolbar descriptions
and status. Because of that, the status is shared among all windows.
I feel that this is something that should be cleaned up before 1.6.0.
