you really mean --enable-optimization=-Os ? why not O2 ?
With LyX-1.3, I did some systematic tests. O3 was not noticeably
faster than O2 or Os, and we thought at the time that we might as
well keep the size down. So we decided on Os. I haven't tested
LyX-1.6, but old habits are hard to break....
