It takes a long time on slow machines. It may trash some manual
adjustments, and thus be "aggravating" to some users.

It's in the User Guide! Under "Export".

"If one of the menu entries DVI, PDF (pdflatex) or Postscript is
missing, you need to ... reconfigure LyX"

Also, "1.4 Basic LyX Setup", which is only 8 paragraphs into the User
Guide.

So quit with the whining already.
