Hum, in my experience 1.6svn is less "blocky" than 1.5.x but you are right you can be stuck now and then.

I've partially implemented support for this. Should not be hard to finish.
Selecting a large region by mouse is therefore impossible, scrolling will get stuck, and shift+click fails.
You should try with the keyboard then ;-) Abdel.
