Agreed.
This is getting ridiculous. Personally, I prefer the layout-like as
structured and reasonably easy to edit. But I understand it is very
un-standard.
"standard" is the key word yes. INI-like or XML is easy to parse and is
understood by a lot of application. Designing an UI to change an XML or
an INI file is easy. XML offers much more possibilities of extension
though. the layout-like format may be nice but we should get rid of it
together with the rc-like format. This reasonning is based on the
assumption that, once a GUI is implemented to cope with the GUI
settings, nobody will care anymore about the format in use. At this
point, XML is the clear winner.
