Yes, the current name is certainly misleading.
I would prefer to merge the two lfuns and add an option (I don't 
like "inverse". How about "parentlayout"?).

I'm not sure I like this. Why should we double the functionality of 
depth-decrement?

Anyway, I would be fine with this patch. You can apply if you like.
