OK. Does the platex system also have a file "latex.exe" that is in the same folder as the "platex.exe"?

Yes. platex.exe handles both English and Japanese and latex.exe is a "normal" latex.

Support for this is easy. I can implement that the Windows-installer checks for "platex.exe" instead of "latex.exe" when you choose japanese as LyX's menu language.

That sounds great!! So I suppose the same job is done by running configure on a unix-like system.

it seems that MikTeX is already supporting platex:

OK. So we clear this point.

But anyway, could you please send me a japanese .tex-file?

Here you are. I attach three files as I'm not sure a tex file should also be written in UTF. ja_JP.eucJP.tex is written in EUC-JP code, probably the most popular Japanese encoding among Unix users, ja_JP.UTF-8.tex is written in UTF-8, and ja_JP.sjis.tex is in Shift-JIS code which Windows users need to use (I suppose). The last two are actually converted by iconv from the first file.

This has nothing to do with it. CTAN is the official TeX/LaTeX file and package repository. Here you can download everything related to TeX. So if you get perhaps a .tex-file that uses packages that are not installed on your system, you can go to CTAN and download and install it from there.

OK, now I understand. Then, I need to ask the author of the japanese package if he can upload it to CTAN.

Thanks!
